Show delivery sequencing with roadmap dependencies

Use a roadmap dependency to draw the connection between two scheduled bars. The connector records a visible sequencing relationship in the selected roadmap. Inspect both endpoints and the dates together, then adjust the plan deliberately when the underlying work changes.

In the appRoadmap → scheduled bar endpoint → drag to another scheduled bar

What you’ll learn

  • Connect scheduled bars from their endpoints.
  • Read the direction with the date ranges.
  • Review and remove outdated connectors.

In this guide
  1. Open the intended roadmap
  2. Schedule both sides of the relationship
  3. Draw a finish-to-start connection
  4. Read the endpoint choice carefully
  5. Review the dates behind the connector
  6. Remove an outdated connection and verify

01

Open the intended roadmap

Open Project roadmap and select the plan you are reviewing with Select roadmap. Confirm its title and expand the branches containing the work you want to connect. Dependencies belong to this selected roadmap, so inspect an existing connector here before creating another. Keep both relevant rows visible to make the source and destination unambiguous during the drag.

02

Schedule both sides of the relationship

Choose a useful scale such as Week and inspect the two bars’ start and target dates. A row marked Drag to schedule needs a date range before it has the scheduled bar used for a connection. Draw its range deliberately and verify the dates. If a bar lies outside the visible period, scroll to it before attempting the dependency drag.

03

Draw a finish-to-start connection

Hover over the source bar and use its right-side dependency dot. Drag from that dot onto the other scheduled bar and release over the target row. Starting on the right creates a finish-to-start connector to the target’s left side. Inspect the resulting line and arrow, checking that they link the intended rows rather than a nearby item.

04

Read the endpoint choice carefully

Dragging from a source bar’s left dot instead creates a start-to-finish connector to the target’s right side. Choose that direction only when it describes the intended relationship. The current drag interaction connects opposite sides; it does not present a general relationship-type picker. Review the visible endpoints and use the issue titles to explain the sequence in plain language.

05

Review the dates behind the connector

Compare the connected bars with the sequence you intend to communicate. The visible connector records that relationship; scheduling remains a separate editing action. If dates no longer fit the discussion, move or resize the appropriate bar and verify both ranges afterward. Open the issues for context when a timeline alone cannot explain whether the work is ready to proceed.

06

Remove an outdated connection and verify

Click an obsolete dependency line to open Delete Dependency. Read the named source and target before confirming, or choose Cancel if you selected the wrong line. After deletion, verify that the bars remain and only the connector has disappeared. Reopen the same selected roadmap in this browser to confirm its connections are saved with that plan.

What you will have

A roadmap whose visible dependency lines express the intended sequence, with both endpoint dates and stored connections verified.
